How does SSMV plan to replace wizden and become more mainstream?
I don’t think “replace” wizden should be the goal, so much as offer a viable alternative to it that servers and players can leverage should they find it better suits them. Having multiple hub providers is healthy to the space station ecosystem overall and ensures no one person/group has the keys to totally wipe out any particular community.
But to your question of how to become more mainstream, I think the first step is to get a couple servers with active players on them to prove the viability of non-wizden hubs to other servers. If the first couple servers can succeed, maintaining active player count without wizden’s hub traffic, it will likely provide motivation and assurance to the other servers that they can safely move without suffering ill effects.
I’m doing my part of this by 1) being available to server hosts to answer questions on integrating MV, and 2) trying to revive Blep. We did have pretty solid lowpop activity on Blep all weekend which was cool, including some folks who had never played before. But, still a long way to go yet
No like. In my case - i need a more stable game engine with less breaking changes, like what happened today with SS14, RT and forks of SS14.
They don’t like old node data? Well, let’s change it! We don’t want use legacy MapManager functions? FUCK IT! Lets make another function and don’t care about other forks or games on RT, because it is developer/author issue, right?
Also, WizDen’s architecture, sometimes, works weidly in some regions (like russian with blocking cloudflare). SSMV is my messiah, if scenario of blocking all internet in my region is real. And i can host my server in some public hub for any people…
for me personally I really hope SSMV and SS:B get some great traction as a ss14 alternative launchers/ other space station games, and such but yeah
